Most burnout recovery coaches will advise you to take time off work, take up a meditation practice and exercise for an hour 3-4 times a week, and so on.

And that's great advice, in an ideal world.

But you're too busy for that shit.

I get it.

You need a method that you can actually do, and stay doing week after week.

You need a routine that can slot into your busy day, enhancing your productivity rather than taking away from it.

Yes it would be lovely to have a stress free life, where the day flows perfectly, with a well organised day that always goes to plan. But that's not how life works out, is it?

My approach to recovering from burnout and preventing it from happening again is simple - take it day by day and make conscious decisions always.

These decisions will either serve you, or they won't, it's up to you.

I believe that you can live a healthy, well balanced life without having to commit to any extremely time consuming tasks.

In fact, when you do small tasks consistently this is a more sustainable way to recover from burnout and prevent it from happening again.

⚡ Being busy isn't something to be proud of. When you're "busy" you can feel like you are not in control of your situation. You have a million and one things to do, but you don't have to be "busy".

⚡️ You can work hard and look after yourself at the same time. These don't often go hand in hand, but they can, and they should. It is easy to get caught up in the workload, working overtime, into the night, on weekends and on holiday but what is it all for if you're not feeling good and enjoying yourself?

⚡️ You are so much more than your job. Are you friends with your best friend because she's an attorney? Are you close with your sister because she's a teacher? No, you love them for their personality, their kindness, their generosity, their laugh, flaws and all.

Chocolate Orange Flapjacks 💛 Bake these at the Chocolate Orange Flapjacks 💛

Bake these at the weekend and keep in a container for the week. Great with a cup of tea as a biscuit alternative.

Recipe:
200g oats (porridge or jumbo)
120g unsalted butter
1 orange
100g dark chocolate (or chips)
80g brown sugar
100ml golden syrup (or honey)

Method:
- Heat oven to 200c/180c fan/gas 6 and line a 25 x 18cm baking tin with baking parchment. Put the oats in a bowl with a pinch of salt.

- Gently melt the butter in a small pan with the sugar and syrup. Once melted, remove from the heat and allow to cool for a couple of minutes. Grate the orange zest into the pan and squeeze in the juice. Pour into the oats and stir thoroughly, until its all combined, then add three quarters of the chopped chocolate (or chips).

- Pour in the whole mix into the baking tin and press down with the back of a spoon. Press the remaining chocolate into the tray, then bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden. Cut into squares and remove from the tin. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

You can add some sunflower or pumpkin seeds into the mix to add more nutrients if you wish.

I've been very quiet on here recently... I've bee I've been very quiet on here recently...

I've been making some fundamental changes to how I run my business and focusing my energy on a new chapter. 

The business model I had before wasn't working for me, it was draining a lot of my energy despite me practicing what I preach - which was very frustrating! 

So I went back to the drawing board and made some major personal discoveries. I signed up to work with a Life Coach to help guide me through this, because it was quite scary, I didn't know which way to turn. To say I was afraid of change would be a huge understatement. 

But, since November I have been letting some things go and focusing on my values and prioritising my energy management. 

It is now almost the middle of January and I feel like I'm only just beginning to get a grip on things again. 

I have made huge progress over the past few months, I have something lined up for myself that I'm really excited about. It honestly feels like a weight has been lifted off of me. I'll talk a little bit more about that once things are in motion.

I am constantly reminded that life is not linear (despite my best efforts to make it so!), it is full of ups and downs and thats what makes it interesting. Everyday I do my best to go with this flow.

I guess I just wanted to come on here to say hi again, it's been a while! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and I hope the New Year has started off well for you. Here's to embracing change even when it scares the shite out of you!

HEALTHY CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE 💛 If you love cho HEALTHY CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE 💛 

If you love chocolate (like me!) you'll love this recipe. It really hits the spot when that craving shows up and it'll provide you with some amazing nutrients that will give you a boost of energy.

Ingredients:
(Makes 1 big glass)

- 250ml milk (dairy or plant based, I used oat)
- 1 banana (chopped and frozen works best)
- 1 tsp nut butter (I used peanut)
- 1 tsp maca powder
- 2 tsp cacao powder
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon 
- 1 pitted date for extra sweetness (optional)

Method:

- Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until there are no lumps left. If you used frozen banana the mixture should be cold, but if you didn't use frozen banana you can use a couple of ice cubes to cool it instead.

- For extra indulgence you could add some whipped cream (dairy or plantbased) and sprinkle some cacao nibs on top!

SWEET POTATO TOAST 💛 Get yourself a large swe SWEET POTATO TOAST 💛 

Get yourself a large sweet potato and make sure you wash it before using it because you will be eating the skin (hello fiber!)

Once washed, slice the sweet potato, not so thin that it falls apart when cooked and not so thick that it takes ages to cook.

Once sliced, poke some holes in the slices with a fork to help them cook quicker.

Pop your slices in a toaster and toast until cooked (I did mine on a high heat and popped the toaster down a few times until I was happy with how it was looking)

Then top with your favourite toppings! You can use savory or sweet ingredients.

I topped mine with...

- Peanut butter mixed with melted coconut oil, cinnamon and nutmeg
- Chopped strawberries and blueberries 
- Sunflower seeds
- Chia seeds
- Cacao nibs
- Honey

I recently tried to take a week off work and total I recently tried to take a week off work and totally failed!

Here's what I learned from that failure...

👉🏻 I overbooked myself! I tried to see as many friends and family as I could that I ended up having no time to rest and relax. By the end of the week I felt exhausted and resented going back to work on the Monday after. I shouldn't have booked so many things in and taken some time to rest instead.

👉🏻 I accepted meetings with other people that I should have postponed until the week after. I also should have had an out of office reply on my email so that people weren't expecting replies from me.

👉🏻 I didn't plan my meals, which meant I was popping to the shop al the time, and eating takeouts which ultimately made me feel like crap.

Here are some questions that came in...

➡️ How do you take time off without worrying about work?

The truth is I don't, but there are things you can do to reduce some of the worry. Be organised! Let those who need to know you're taking some time off, have an out of office reply with an emergency contact just in case, and schedule things before you leave like meetings and social media.

➡️ How do you look after yourself when you're busy?

Prioritise regular short breaks throughout the day. 

Take control of your morning and have a nutritious breakfast.

Keep hydrated. Fill 2 refill bottles and aim to drink those by the end of the day.

Have an early night. You cannot function properly the next day without a good night's sleep. 

➡️ What do you do to not feel guilty about taking time off?

Remember this, not only do you deserve time off but you NEED time off. Your mental health is more important then any business or job of yours. When you look after yourself you start to look after everything and everyone better. You cannot work all the time because you will burn out.

So you can take control of your day, and not let your day control you.

How to start feeling more energised without taking away the things that you love...

👉 Tip #1: HYDRATE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. By drinking a glass of warm water with a slice of lemon in the morning you are going to give your body the boost it needs to wake up, before you have your first coffee of the day. This is a game changer!

👉 Tip #2: EAT A NUTRIENT RICH BREAKFAST. That breakfast cereal bar, or slice of toast isn't going to do you any favours. By eating a nutritious breakfast, big or small depending on your own appetite, you will feed your body the energy it needs to kick-ass in your morning meetings. A lot of my clients love chia seed puddings with fruit and nuts on top, it can be made the night before which saves you loads of time in the mornings.

👉 Tip #3: MOVE REGULARLY. If you're someone who works from a desk all day movement is key to keep that oxegen moving throughout your body and giving you that energy you need. Walk to work, take the stairs, walk to the canteen, walk around the kitchen 5 times, whatever it is that you can do, do it.

⬆️ This is just the tip of the iceberg! There is so much more you can do to go from feeling burned out to feeling like you can take on the world.

ENERGY BOOSTING LUNCH 💛 I am all about simple b ENERGY BOOSTING LUNCH 💛 I am all about simple but nutritious food and this beetroot and quinoa salad is so delicious and nutrient dense that it will give you that sustainable energy lift you are looking for.

Now, I didn't measure or weigh anything when I was making this but this recipe, I just threw the ingredients together and hoped it would turn out ok (which it did), but the method below should give you a good idea as to what to do.

👉 Chop 3 beetroot into cubes and roast in the oven (at about 180° for an hour) with olive oil, finely chopped garlic and ginger (use powder if you don't have the fresh stuff)

👉 Boil a cup of quinoa in some salted water until the water has been absorbed and the grain is soft.

👉 Once they're cooked, mix the beets and quinoa together with the juice of half a lemon, a pinch of salt and pepper, a handful or two of pumpkin seeds (depending on how much you like them), and a handful of freshly chopped flat leaf parsley.

When serving, top with some feta cheese (as much as you like!)

I ate this alongside some fish one day, and some chicken the next day, and on it's own too with some mixed leaves and avocado so it's a handy versatile dish to have in the fridge for the week.

CHANGE IS EASY, ONCE YOU KNOW HOW 💛 When you're CHANGE IS EASY, ONCE YOU KNOW HOW 💛 When you're heading towards burnout you cant start to feel irritated, have regular headaches, experience high anxiety and constantly have an upset stomach to the point where you think you're allergic to everything.

I know I did.

A few years ago everything I ate made me feel ill. I spent quite a bit of money on a Nutritional Therapist who honestly couldn't have cared less about me. I was so frustrated leaving her clinic.

‼️ I didn't know it at the time, but it wasn't the food that I was eating that was causing my upset stomachs, it was my stress levels, I was heading towards burnout.

The Nutritional Therapist didn't look at or ask me about anything other than looking at my 4 week food diary. I came to her in a time of need, but she wasn't interested in helping me. So, I had to help myself.

🌟 I wanted to attract a better life for myself! I didn't want to keep feeling the way I did.

👉 Fast forward a few years later and I am now a qualified Health Coach!

The poor experience that I had with that Nutritional Therapist is what really propels me as a Health Coach today to help my clients as much as I possibly can. I don't want anyone leaving a session with me feeling frustrated with no direct plan as to what to do next.

3 WAYS TO LIFT BRAIN FOG 💛 Brain fog can show u 3 WAYS TO LIFT BRAIN FOG 💛 Brain fog can show up in a variety of ways. You might be unable to concentrate for long periods of time, or you may have difficulty making decisions or in more severe cases, you might have headaches, problems with your vision or even nausea.

🌟 Here are 3 easy things you can do to help lift the brain fog!

👉 1. Eat more antioxidant rich foods. “The function and health of the brain, and even mood, are highly influenced by the state of health of our gut bacteria,” says brain health expert Dr. David Perlmutter. “Nurturing our gut bacteria allows us to reap the benefits of a healthy microbiome. And that means reduced inflammation and more-balanced immunity.” Among other fruits and vegetables (the darker the colour the more antioxidants they have), blueberries are one of the best suppliers of antioxidants, which is why blueberries are often linked to improved memory and cognitive function.

👉 2. Limit your caffeine intake. It might sound counterintuitive at first, but if you start nourishing yourself with wholesome, nutritious food and drinking more water and herbal tea's your body will naturally start to crave caffeine less. This means that your body is getting the sustainable energy it needs through food and hydration rather than having to rely on quick fixes like coffee.

👉 3. Get a good night's sleep. Poor sleep hygiene, like an irregular sleep and wake time, getting less than seven to eight hours of sleep a night, or blue light exposure before bed disrupts your natural circadian rhythm aka your internal body clock. This contributes to brain fog in a few different ways, so try to get a good evening routine that works for you.

There is no need to rush into these things. You would be surprised about how doing something little and often can give you the results you're looking for.

Most burnout recovery coaches will advise you to take time off work, take up a meditation practice and exercise for an hour 3-4 times a week, and so on.

And that's great advice, in an ideal world.

But you're too busy for that shit.

I get it.

You need a method that you can actually do, and stay doing week after week.

Yes it would be lovely to have a stress free life, where the day flows perfectly, with a well organised day that always goes to plan. But that's not how life works out, is it?

My approach to recovering from burnout and preventing it from happening again is simple - take it day by day and make conscious decisions always.

These decisions will either serve you, or they won't, it's up to you.

I believe that you can live a healthy, well balanced life without having to commit to any extremely time consuming tasks.

In fact, when you do small tasks consistently this is a more sustainable way to recover from burnout and prevent it from happening again.

⚡ Being busy isn't something to be proud of. When you're "busy" you can feel like you are not in control of your situation. You have a million and one things to do, but you don't have to be "busy".

Chocolate Orange Flapjacks 💛 Bake these at the Chocolate Orange Flapjacks 💛

Bake these at the weekend and keep in a container for the week. Great with a cup of tea as a biscuit alternative.

Recipe:
200g oats (porridge or jumbo)
120g unsalted butter
1 orange
100g dark chocolate (or chips)
80g brown sugar
100ml golden syrup (or honey)

Method:
- Heat oven to 200c/180c fan/gas 6 and line a 25 x 18cm baking tin with baking parchment. Put the oats in a bowl with a pinch of salt.

- Gently melt the butter in a small pan with the sugar and syrup. Once melted, remove from the heat and allow to cool for a couple of minutes. Grate the orange zest into the pan and squeeze in the juice. Pour into the oats and stir thoroughly, until its all combined, then add three quarters of the chopped chocolate (or chips).

- Pour in the whole mix into the baking tin and press down with the back of a spoon. Press the remaining chocolate into the tray, then bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden. Cut into squares and remove from the tin. Allow to cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

You can add some sunflower or pumpkin seeds into the mix to add more nutrients if you wish.

I've been very quiet on here recently... I've bee I've been very quiet on here recently...

I've been making some fundamental changes to how I run my business and focusing my energy on a new chapter. 

The business model I had before wasn't working for me, it was draining a lot of my energy despite me practicing what I preach - which was very frustrating! 

So I went back to the drawing board and made some major personal discoveries. I signed up to work with a Life Coach to help guide me through this, because it was quite scary, I didn't know which way to turn. To say I was afraid of change would be a huge understatement. 

But, since November I have been letting some things go and focusing on my values and prioritising my energy management. 

It is now almost the middle of January and I feel like I'm only just beginning to get a grip on things again. 

I have made huge progress over the past few months, I have something lined up for myself that I'm really excited about. It honestly feels like a weight has been lifted off of me. I'll talk a little bit more about that once things are in motion.

I am constantly reminded that life is not linear (despite my best efforts to make it so!), it is full of ups and downs and thats what makes it interesting. Everyday I do my best to go with this flow.

I guess I just wanted to come on here to say hi again, it's been a while! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and I hope the New Year has started off well for you. Here's to embracing change even when it scares the shite out of you!

HEALTHY CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE 💛 If you love cho HEALTHY CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE 💛 

If you love chocolate (like me!) you'll love this recipe. It really hits the spot when that craving shows up and it'll provide you with some amazing nutrients that will give you a boost of energy.

Ingredients:
(Makes 1 big glass)

- 250ml milk (dairy or plant based, I used oat)
- 1 banana (chopped and frozen works best)
- 1 tsp nut butter (I used peanut)
- 1 tsp maca powder
- 2 tsp cacao powder
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon 
- 1 pitted date for extra sweetness (optional)

Method:

- Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until there are no lumps left. If you used frozen banana the mixture should be cold, but if you didn't use frozen banana you can use a couple of ice cubes to cool it instead.

- For extra indulgence you could add some whipped cream (dairy or plantbased) and sprinkle some cacao nibs on top!

SWEET POTATO TOAST 💛 Get yourself a large swe SWEET POTATO TOAST 💛 

Get yourself a large sweet potato and make sure you wash it before using it because you will be eating the skin (hello fiber!)

Once washed, slice the sweet potato, not so thin that it falls apart when cooked and not so thick that it takes ages to cook.

Once sliced, poke some holes in the slices with a fork to help them cook quicker.

Pop your slices in a toaster and toast until cooked (I did mine on a high heat and popped the toaster down a few times until I was happy with how it was looking)

Then top with your favourite toppings! You can use savory or sweet ingredients.

I topped mine with...

- Peanut butter mixed with melted coconut oil, cinnamon and nutmeg
- Chopped strawberries and blueberries 
- Sunflower seeds
- Chia seeds
- Cacao nibs
- Honey

I recently tried to take a week off work and total I recently tried to take a week off work and totally failed!

Here's what I learned from that failure...

👉🏻 I overbooked myself! I tried to see as many friends and family as I could that I ended up having no time to rest and relax. By the end of the week I felt exhausted and resented going back to work on the Monday after. I shouldn't have booked so many things in and taken some time to rest instead.

👉🏻 I accepted meetings with other people that I should have postponed until the week after. I also should have had an out of office reply on my email so that people weren't expecting replies from me.

👉🏻 I didn't plan my meals, which meant I was popping to the shop al the time, and eating takeouts which ultimately made me feel like crap.

Here are some questions that came in...

➡️ How do you take time off without worrying about work?

The truth is I don't, but there are things you can do to reduce some of the worry. Be organised! Let those who need to know you're taking some time off, have an out of office reply with an emergency contact just in case, and schedule things before you leave like meetings and social media.

➡️ How do you look after yourself when you're busy?

Prioritise regular short breaks throughout the day. 

Take control of your morning and have a nutritious breakfast.

Keep hydrated. Fill 2 refill bottles and aim to drink those by the end of the day.

Have an early night. You cannot function properly the next day without a good night's sleep. 

➡️ What do you do to not feel guilty about taking time off?

Remember this, not only do you deserve time off but you NEED time off. Your mental health is more important then any business or job of yours. When you look after yourself you start to look after everything and everyone better. You cannot work all the time because you will burn out.

So you can take control of your day, and not let your day control you.

How to start feeling more energised without taking away the things that you love...

👉 Tip #1: HYDRATE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. By drinking a glass of warm water with a slice of lemon in the morning you are going to give your body the boost it needs to wake up, before you have your first coffee of the day. This is a game changer!

👉 Tip #2: EAT A NUTRIENT RICH BREAKFAST. That breakfast cereal bar, or slice of toast isn't going to do you any favours. By eating a nutritious breakfast, big or small depending on your own appetite, you will feed your body the energy it needs to kick-ass in your morning meetings. A lot of my clients love chia seed puddings with fruit and nuts on top, it can be made the night before which saves you loads of time in the mornings.

👉 Tip #3: MOVE REGULARLY. If you're someone who works from a desk all day movement is key to keep that oxegen moving throughout your body and giving you that energy you need. Walk to work, take the stairs, walk to the canteen, walk around the kitchen 5 times, whatever it is that you can do, do it.

⬆️ This is just the tip of the iceberg! There is so much more you can do to go from feeling burned out to feeling like you can take on the world.

ENERGY BOOSTING LUNCH 💛 I am all about simple b ENERGY BOOSTING LUNCH 💛 I am all about simple but nutritious food and this beetroot and quinoa salad is so delicious and nutrient dense that it will give you that sustainable energy lift you are looking for.

Now, I didn't measure or weigh anything when I was making this but this recipe, I just threw the ingredients together and hoped it would turn out ok (which it did), but the method below should give you a good idea as to what to do.

👉 Chop 3 beetroot into cubes and roast in the oven (at about 180° for an hour) with olive oil, finely chopped garlic and ginger (use powder if you don't have the fresh stuff)

👉 Boil a cup of quinoa in some salted water until the water has been absorbed and the grain is soft.

👉 Once they're cooked, mix the beets and quinoa together with the juice of half a lemon, a pinch of salt and pepper, a handful or two of pumpkin seeds (depending on how much you like them), and a handful of freshly chopped flat leaf parsley.

When serving, top with some feta cheese (as much as you like!)

I ate this alongside some fish one day, and some chicken the next day, and on it's own too with some mixed leaves and avocado so it's a handy versatile dish to have in the fridge for the week.

I know I did.

A few years ago everything I ate made me feel ill. I spent quite a bit of money on a Nutritional Therapist who honestly couldn't have cared less about me. I was so frustrated leaving her clinic.

‼️ I didn't know it at the time, but it wasn't the food that I was eating that was causing my upset stomachs, it was my stress levels, I was heading towards burnout.

The Nutritional Therapist didn't look at or ask me about anything other than looking at my 4 week food diary. I came to her in a time of need, but she wasn't interested in helping me. So, I had to help myself.

You might be unable to concentrate for long periods of time, or you may have difficulty making decisions or in more severe cases, you might have headaches, problems with your vision or even nausea.

🌟 Here are 3 easy things you can do to help lift the brain fog!

👉 1. Eat more antioxidant rich foods. “The function and health of the brain, and even mood, are highly influenced by the state of health of our gut bacteria,” says brain health expert Dr. David Perlmutter. “Nurturing our gut bacteria allows us to reap the benefits of a healthy microbiome. And that means reduced inflammation and more-balanced immunity.” Among other fruits and vegetables (the darker the colour the more antioxidants they have), blueberries are one of the best suppliers of antioxidants, which is why blueberries are often linked to improved memory and cognitive function.

👉 2. Limit your caffeine intake. It might sound counterintuitive at first, but if you start nourishing yourself with wholesome, nutritious food and drinking more water and herbal tea's your body will naturally start to crave caffeine less. This means that your body is getting the sustainable energy it needs through food and hydration rather than having to rely on quick fixes like coffee.

👉 3. Get a good night's sleep. Poor sleep hygiene, like an irregular sleep and wake time, getting less than seven to eight hours of sleep a night, or blue light exposure before bed disrupts your natural circadian rhythm aka your internal body clock. This contributes to brain fog in a few different ways, so try to get a good evening routine that works for you.

Brain health is not only critical to mental capacity but is also paramount to emotional wellbeing. I hope these tips are helpful to you ☺️

Start small!

This is the best way to introduce a new habit into your life. Start small, and be consistent.

For example, if you want to start reading books before you go to bed instead of scrolling on your phone, have your book by your bedside and aim to read 3 pages every night for the rest of the week. If you can commit to that, start reading 6 pages every night for the week, and so on. 

You see what I mean?

There is no need to rush into these things. You would be surprised about how doing something little and often can give you the results you're looking for.
